Cannes appoints first Chinese Jury chair.

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has appointed its first ever Chinese Jury president, naming Lo Sheung Yan to chair its Outdoor category in 2012.

Lo Sheung Yan, known as Mayan, is JWT 's executive creative director, North East Asia and chairman, China. He has been with JWT since 1996 and is a member of JWT's global creative council.

Under his creative stewardship in Asia, the agency has garnered many creative awards, including 2011's Press Grand Prix at Cannes for Samsonite's Heaven and Hell . The work also won further Grand Prix at Spikes Asia in the Outdoor, Print and Print and Poster Crafts categories. Other achievements include JWT Asia Pacific being named Spikes Asia's 2009 'Network of the Year' and AdFest's 'Network Agency of the Year' in 2008 and 2009, with JWT Shanghai named AdFest's Agency of the Year in 2009.

Mayan has previously judged awards both regionally and internationally, including Longxi, Chinese Advertising Awards, Spikes Asia, Clio, Cannes and ADC awards. A member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong, he has also written, directed, and acted in stage plays for over 15 years in Hong Kong and written lyrics for Asian pop songs and musicals. In 2009, the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce honored him as one of the Outstanding Hong Kong People in Shanghai.
