Locals participate in Black Friday
CALCUTTA - Parking lots throughout Calcutta were filled with cars as people waited for the Black Friday sales.
Different stores opened at different times this year. Major chain stores such as Walmart and Kmart started sales early this year. Walmart in Calcutta started sale prices as early as 10 p.m. Thanksgiving night. The discounts continued through the night, with new reductions periodically throughout the night. Last year the sales didn't start until midnight, as Walmart gave customers extra time to shop.
According to one manager, customers were lining up for Black Friday as early as 2 p.m. Thursday. However, the store experienced no major problems, and after the early morning, the rush of people slowly died down.
Britney Davis of Calcutta says she shops at Walmart every Black Friday, and was excited to see all the good deals.
"I got a lot more than I expected," said Davis as she piled of cart full of items into her car trunk. "The electronics like DVDs and video games were really well-priced this year.
