However, the investigation has also highlighted lapses in the security drill by several airlines, including national carrier Air India. The airlines, police say, have been allowing contracted loaders to work without proper observation.
"Delhi Police is writing a letter to CISF to take remedial measures to compel airlines to check these loaders while at work and at the same time to Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to ask the verification agency to re-check the addresses of these loaders as they have not resided at the addresses mentioned in their passes. They have also been advised to earmark dedicated exit and entry gates where checking and frisking must be done,'' said Sanjeev.
The police got a lead in the case on December 8, when Jamshedpur resident N Dilip Kumar complained about losing his SBI credit and debit cards from his baggage on an Air India flight from Mumbai to Ranchi via Delhi. On arrival at Ranchi Airport, the lock on his luggage was found broken.
