BECOME A BIRDER
To deepen your knowledge about bird viewing, consider joining an outing with a local birding group. Nonmembers are welcomed at meetings and outings. The Golden Eagle Audubon Society represents bird watchers in southwestern Idaho. In addition to a monthly evening program the fourth Tuesday of each month, members also conduct monthly field trips. For their outing schedule, go to goldeneagleaudubon.org.
Another local organization is the Southwestern Idaho Birders Association, based out of the Canyon County area. They hold meetings and presentations every second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, and sponsor monthly outings. • Dress for cold weather.
• Watch for birds along the road or trail approaching the birding site.
